Reaper Chalk Hill Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

We wish that the vineyard had given us a little more wine in 2010. Sadly, we were only able to produce 174 cases of the 2010 Reaper Chalk Hill Cabernet, and that will have to tide us over until Spring of 2014. Who said that 2010 was a difficult vintage in Sonoma? Well the Bilbro brothers clearly missed the memo, as they have created one of the most monumental Cabernets to come out of Chalk Hill in a long time.

From the utterly opaque blue-black robe to the baby nose still redolent of super-rich black fruits, leather and tar to the luscious attack, ultra plush mid palate and the long, concentrated finish, this wine appears to be one for the ages. There are still lots of baby-fat on this young wine. Our  best guess is that the 2010 Chalk Hill Cabernet will continue to drink well for another 12 – 18 months before going into a little bit of a dumb phase that will require careful cellaring. Drink this wine before 2015 or plan on laying it aside for 5 – 7 years.
